November 4, 2020

Today, November 4, 2020, the Fort Scott School District was notified that a student at Fort Scott Middle School, and a student and staff member at Fort Scott High School, had tested positive for COVID-19. When we have a positive test for COVID-19 in our school buildings, through contact tracing, we identified which students and staff that may have been impacted through close contact with the infected students and communicated these close contacts to the health department.  Any students and their families who may have been impacted were notified. If a student and/or parent was not notified, it was determined that the student was not impacted by this situation and any additional notification is not necessary.

The Bourbon County Health Department continues to adjust their contact tracing protocols.  The health department was having the Kansas Department of Health and Environment assist in working positive case investigations of COVID-19 cases in Bourbon County, but as of this past Monday KDHE is no longer assisting the health department with case investigations.  KDHE will continue to assist the health department with contact tracing, but the health department is working on transitioning back to their health department doing case investigations, which has caused some communication issues between the health department and the school district and the school district in communicating with district families because of the changes in case management occurring at the health department.  The school district is working with the health department to remedy the communication piece as it relates to contact tracing.

If you have any additional questions, please contact your child’s building.

Respectfully,

Ted Hessong

Superintendent
