I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! USD 234 is looking forward to the upcoming semester with state assessments just around the corner and winter sports in full swing, we are preparing for a successful second half of the school year.
With students returning tomorrow, we will be returning to the same operational guidelines that we followed in December. At this time, the school district does not have any updated information from the health department to use as guidance. Masks will continue to be optional for students and staff, but it is highly recommended to wear a mask while in the buildings, especially for those who are not vaccinated.
The district is also waiting on guidance from the health department regarding the updated CDC guidance on quarantining. The updated guidance states that close contacts who are unvaccinated or more than six months from their second dose of a vaccine are recommended to quarantine for 5 days and then be released from quarantine but will need to wear a mask when around others for an additional 5 days. The health department is waiting on guidance from KDHE on their position with the updated guidance.
As a reminder, we are continuing with the Test to Stay and Learn COVID testing option for students and staff who are considered a close contact. If you have questions, you can contact Kaylee Button at 620-223-8940.
Inclement Weather Procedures:
The safety of district students, parents, patrons, and employees is of utmost concern to the USD 234 Board of Education. To ensure that an informed decision is made about the school day when inclement weather is predicted, the district will set in motion a plan to test the safety of having school, the Superintendent will evaluate the facts and formulate a plan of action. If a decision to dismiss school is made, it will be announced by 6:00 a.m. via various media outlets. If school is in session, there will not be a media announcement.
