This afternoon, Thursday, July 15, 2020, the Governor of Kansas announced that she will be issuing an Executive Order by the end of the week delaying the opening of school buildings in Kansas until September 9th.
I don't have any other specific information at this time. I was not aware of this decision until the Governor made the announcement this afternoon.
Tomorrow afternoon the building principals, representatives from FSKNEA, and myself will participate in a Zoom meeting hosted by Dr. Watson, the Commissioner of the Education for Kansas, who will be giving school districts guidance about the Governor's Executive Order and the release of the Kansas Department of Education’s Navigating Change 2020: Kansas Guide to Learning and School Safety Operations guidance document for reopening school buildings, which was adopted by the Kansas State Board of Education this morning.
As of right now, we will continue to have ESY, Jump Start, and Summer Conditioning. We will make a decision on whether we can continue these activities next week based on the Governor's Executive Order and KSDE's guidance the school district receives.
The school district will provide more specific information to parents and guardians next week regarding the reopening plan for USD 234.
"Stay positive through all of this." This is what I have to tell myself frequently in dealing with all the changes related to COVID. I know, working together, we will provide our students the best and safest education, no matter the hurdles. Thank you.
