Nick Johnson: Preschool Center Principal

Nick Johnson,

Preschool Center Principal

About Our Principal

Nick Johnson serves as Principal of the Fort Scott Preschool Center, and he wishes more people understood how crucial early childhood education can be.

“Building a quality foundation for students to build upon - both educational and social-emotional - helps them not only in their early years as they prepare for kindergarten but far beyond,” says Mr. Johnson.

Mr. Johnson applies a student-centered approach to leadership. His students are always at the forefront of every decision he makes, and he tries to be as actively engaged in their learning experience as possible.

Each morning, Mr. Johnson arrives early to catch up on emails and plan his day. But when it’s time for students to arrive, that’s when his focus shifts. Each morning, he strives to greet students and parents as they make their way into the building and make himself available for any questions or concerns they may have. Then, he visits classrooms and attends district-level meetings. When it’s time for morning classes to dismiss, you’ll find him again outside, helping students into their cars and buses. And for the afternoon session, Mr. Johnson repeats the process!

Mr. Johnson believes investing in the next generation is essential for building a better future - not only for students but also for the families and communities surrounding them.

“By providing our children with the necessary resources and opportunities, we can help young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their full potential and positively impact society,” Mr. Johnson said.

When Mr. Johnson isn’t at school, he’s usually at a sporting event or spending time outdoors fishing or hunting with his two sons. He’s coached various youth sports, but still enjoys athletics himself - on Sunday evenings, you’ll likely find him playing basketball!

Raised in Fort Scott, Mr. Johnson has always known how supportive the community is, and as an adult, he’s come to appreciate it to an even greater extent. He loves living in a small town where everyone knows everyone and, most importantly, when people are in need—everyone comes to the rescue!
