Welcome - Shelly Charter

Help us welcome Shelly Charter as the principal at Winfield Scott Elementary School.  Shelly comes to us from Independence, KS where she spent nearly 25 years as a teacher.  She most recently taught Title I Math but spent time as a 3rd grade teacher and a gifted facilitator.

She was raised in Independence and earned her teaching degree as well as her Masters’ Degree from Emporia State University.  She also attended Pittsburg State University where she earned her degree in School Building Leadership.

Shelly enjoys spending time with her daughter and two sons.  She is looking forward to two weddings in her family in the next couple of months.  She is very excited the growth in her family.  Traveling and reading are two of her passions beyond her family.

“Shelly brings a vast amount of experience teaching and working in the primary grades.  Her leadership skills will enhance what already exists at Winfield Scott Elementary,” states Destry Brown, Superintendent of Schools.

When asked about what excites her most about coming to Fort Scott, Shelly enthusiastically says, “I am so excited to be a part of an amazing team in Fort Scott.  I am looking forward to building many positive relationships among our students, staff, families and community.”
